An internal sinus lift addresses limited bone height in the back of the upper jaw. When some bone is present and only a small vertical gain is needed, this approach can be completed at the same appointment as implant placement.
It differs from a lateral sinus lift in scope. Instead of creating a window in the side of the jaw, the sinus floor is gently lifted from above through the implant osteotomy, a less invasive path when anatomy allows.
Because the graft and implant can often be placed in a single visit, the total treatment timeline is shorter and recovery tends to be straightforward.

Local anesthetic is administered so the site is fully numb. IV sedation is available for patients who prefer it, after a thorough medical review.
The site is accessed through a small incision, and the osteotomy for the implant is prepared using the standard steps until the sinus floor is contacted.
The floor of the sinus is gently lifted, and bone graft material is placed to add height in the specific area needed for the implant.
The implant is placed at the same visit and the site is sutured closed. After about four months of healing, the implant is ready for the crown to be placed by your general dentist.
For at least two weeks, avoid blowing your nose and sneeze with your mouth open to protect the graft. If allergies are a concern, a nasal decongestant can help reduce pressure changes.
Keep your head elevated during the first week, avoid bending over to lift heavy objects, and protect the site from trauma while you eat and brush.
We provide a specialized rinse to help keep the area clean. Most patients recover comfortably and return to normal activity quickly.
